Honors and Awards

Nominees and applications for the following awards are accepted throughout the year and winners are announced at the annual conferences.

GHEC Distinguished Service Award
This award is given for outstanding and dedicated leadership in expanding and enhancing the education of physicians in the field of global health.
>> 2007 Recipient of the GHEC Distinguished Service Award

Christopher Krogh
This award is presented to a student, resident, faculty member or other individual(s), or institutions that best represent the spirit of Christopher Krogh's dedication to global health.

Dr. Krogh demonstrated that careers among our own underserved and in international health are often simply two sides of the same coin. The Christopher Krogh award seeks to pay tribute to his memory by honoring an individual who also demonstrates this integration of international and domestic healthcare.

Christopher Krogh, MD, was killed in an airplane accident on February 24, 1994, while traveling as a physician for the Indian Health Service. Dr. Krogh was a founding member of GHEC and a member of the Board of Directors.

Carole M. Davis
Since 2002, this award has been given annually to honor IHMEC founding member Carole M. Davis. Two $500 grants are given to support research projects to be completed within one year of theto two students or faculty members from a school that is an institutional member of IHMEC and is based on a 1000-word statement that describes the global health activity for which the applicant will use the funding.

Each year, the process of choosing a single individual from a pool of very qualified applicants had been a difficult one. This experience resulted in the decision to give four awards (4 times $500), to help fund these extremely worthy global health projects.
