Understanding the Global Crisis of Economic Migrants
Migration occupies an important role in the economic and social life of nearly every region and country in the world. The political debate on migration raging in the United States highlights the need for an informed understanding of the issues and sound analysis of the data. The ethics of health care are challenged by the harsh realities facing economic migrants. Using examples from the United States, this plenary establishes a general understanding of the status of health care among economic migrants and opens the door for subsequent discussion of health as a human right and the ethical role of the healthcare provider.

Call to Action: Coalition Building and the Healthcare of Economic Migrants
Given the complex social, political and economic factors impacting migrants and their health, any solution to the healthcare challenges they face must look beyond the scope of traditional healthcare providers. It must include sociologists, economists, politicians, educators, business leaders and community organizers. This plenary highlights successful, collaborative models among private, public and academic sectors engaged in the healthcare of economic migrants.
